The 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11DS also known as DiGeorge syndrome or Velo-cardio-facial syndrome) is a genetic disorder that is caused by a microdeletion of part of the long arm of chromosome 22. The frequency is reported to be about one of every 4,000 live births. As a result of numerous medical issues that affect individuals with 22q11DS, it is essential that they receive care from a large number of medical and allied healthcare professionals. At the Montefiore-Einstein Regional Center for 22q11DS, care is delivered by a team of professionals who have experience and expertise in working with patients and families carrying the deletion. We work in unison, communicating and sharing information to formulate an effective treatment plan and intervention tailored to the patient and family.

At The "22q and You" Center — established in 1996 — our goal is to provide the finest diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services to these children and their families.
We have evaluated more than 1,700 patients with the deletion and over 250 patients with a 22q duplication, making our Center the world leader in 22q multidisciplinary evaluation. While many of our patients are from the mid-Atlantic states, we serve the international community as well. Families travel to us from throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and abroad — including such distant locations as Australia, England, France, Germany, Israel and Ukraine.
Our staff includes geneticists, genetic counselors and other medical personnel who specialize in the 22q11.2 deletion. Physicians and researchers in the 22q and You Center lead the way in researching the 22q11.2 deletion, hoping to find out more about what causes it, how it affects children and how we can make their lives even better.
