Our son was diagnosed with DiGeorge in May 2012. Here’s his story….Blake was born on February 25, 2004. He was 8 weeks premature and weighed in at a whopping 3 lbs! His troubles started immediately with feeding & swallowing issues due to tracheomalacia. Then the respiratory infections started…causing him to get pneumonia several times every year. Blake also had hernia repair surgery at 6 wks old. He started receiving physical therapy at 6 months and proceeded on to speech & OT. His first steps were taken at 2 yrs old and his first words came at 5yrs old. He is now in 3rd grade and still receives speech, social and special ed services. Blake receives all of his care at Hope Childrens Hospital/Oak Lawn, IL. And thanks to Dr Desch, who ordered the genetic test, we were able to learn about DiGeorge Syndrome and what to expect for Blake’s future. Even though Blake has had a rough start at life he is improving every day! He loves to play baseball, listen to music and play his PS3 & Wii. We thank God every day for bringing such a special child into our lives.
