OLIVIA

Retrun to 22q Stories

You are here

I found out at 34 weeks pregnant that my unborn daughter had truncus arteriosis. When Olivia was born she had a small (not fully formed) right ear and most noticably assymetrical crying face. The geneticist came and told me that they were going to test her for 22q and that she would have the results within a few days. Olivia’s test came back positive for 22q the week she was going to have her first open heart surgery. Everything I had read about 22q scared me because there is such a broad range of complications. Today Olivia is a happy, healthy 1-year-old that seems to have moderate symptoms of DiGeorge. She had a busy first year though with two open heart surgeries, a cardiac cath procedure and a peg tube placement. She amazes me more and more every day and I look forward to seeing what milestones she will achieve in 2012.
